OUR POLICIES

OUR MISSION

To spread BTS, their music and influence across the country by organizing fan projects related to radio, charting, positive media coverage, and community-building.

PROJECT POLICIES

Any funds collected should be used to promote BTS to Canadian ARMY and the public in order to maximize their reach (especially if funds are collected via Twitter). Social justice or charity projects that do not directly promote BTS to Canadian ARMY and the public fall under the mission of "community building"; BTSxCanada decides to participate in projects of this nature with the intention of building the Canadian ARMY community to better support BTS together and of acting as conscientious citizens and a community of fans that represent BTS's messages.

Birthday Projects

We do support:

  • Charity projects (see conditions in Charity Projects section)

  • Streaming parties

As of 2019, we do not support:

  • Ad buying projects (the Taehyung Vancouver ad was our last ad-type birthday project)

  • Buying projects (see guidelines for buying parties in Buying Parties section)

Reasoning includes:

  • Inclusion of fansite content. Fansites who are unreliable or may be engaged in behaviour deemed inappropriate by BigHit/the fandom and are profiting from the portrait rights of the members

  • Concerns about these projects being backed by akgae groups

  • The potential for birthdays to fall during comeback seasons

Social Justice Initiatives

"Blackouts" and Responding to Current Events:

  • BTSxCanada will not change our posting schedule or content based on demands from followers/the public

  • BTSxCanada will not participate in blackouts or other forms of "performance activism", but may share resources and information on issues relating to our fan community (see criteria below)

  • We will review current movements, events, initiatives, etc. to determine if they meet the following criteria:

    • Relate to BTS's messages

    • Relevant to and representative of the fan community in Canada or a regional fan community; and

    • Not promoting a particular political party (for Canadian or International contexts)

Petitions:

  • Currently, they are not something we promote on this account. The only exception to this is petitions related to social justice initiatives that we have verified (e.g., petitions backed by an MP or MPP on a government website). While we don't share petitions publicly, we always bring them to the rest of our team on Discord and give individual team members the opportunity to support them on their personal accounts.

Miscellaneous:

  • Resources from previous campaigns will be housed on our website

  • BTSxCanada will not promote templates/email campaigns to BigHit relating to cultural appropriation or other social justice initiatives, but may share resources and information with our fan community

Buying Parties

  • We have a policy of not supporting buying parties that do not relate to our current focus unless the song is charting on iTunes

  • We do not retweet/share Solo Fanbase buying parties, but we will provide updates on the chart position of a solo member single if informed by these fanbases about the status of that single, especially if it contributes to album sales for the current comeback

Charity Projects

  • Donations must be direct to the charity and not collected by a fan/fanbase first

  • We will retweet/share in IG stories but will not promote charity projects

  • Charity projects cannot be affiliated with fansites or non-OT7 accounts/fanbases

  • We adhere to the principles of OneInAnARMY

    • BTSxCanada has collectively decided to stay hands-off when it comes to donations. We do not accept e-Transfers, PayPal payments, cheques, or money of any kind for charity initiatives. Any monetary donations sent to our email or PayPal for this purpose will be refunded.

    • We do not share charity projects that accept monetary donations of any kind (e.g., to pool donations) on behalf of donors. We share charity projects that direct participants to donate directly to the charity, Not For Profit or NGO.

    • When it comes to GoFundMe/Kickstarter/individual campaigns, we may share them if your fundraising page is linked directly to the non-profit and no money is handled by a third party in the transaction, we will run through our regular screening questions and we'll poll the rest of the team for a decision. If the fundraiser is linked to a personal or business bank account, we will not share these charity projects. We take our responsibility seriously and would never want to endorse ARMY donating to a cause we can't verify as legitimate. Additionally, we don't share fundraisers that benefit a single individual of any kind, regardless of the platform.

    • Please keep in mind that we only share ARMY led projects that are fundraising in the name of BTS and/or ARMY.

Solo Member Releases

  • We fund member solo projects (singles only) as a secondary priority through Funds for BangCAN (FFBC). Chapter 2 update: we will treat solo singles and albums the same as BTS singles and albums. This means we will fund all solo songs with no limit on how long ARMY can apply for funds, though priority will be given to the latest single or album. We will aim to fund all songs on the album once requests for the single(s) have been filled.

  • FFBC will fund collaborations for a minimum of two weeks and will continue funding as long as the song remains on the Canadian Hot 100.

  • We promote them by retweeting, posting, etc.

  • We do not retweet/share Solo Fanbase buying parties, but we will provide updates on the chart position of a solo member single if informed by these fanbases about the status of that single, especially if it contributes to album sales for the current comeback

Voting

  • We promote regional awards that can only be voted for by North American or Canadian ARMY

  • If BTS tweets about it, we promote it

    • BBMAs

    • PCAs

    • MTV VMAs

  • We redirect ARMY to @btsvotingorg on Twitter
